Starting your day with a healthful diet that provides you with the right nutrients to help your body get a kick start is a good choice. \u201cA healthy breakfast should be a variety of foods like whole grains, low-fat protein or dairy sources, and fruit,\u201d says Andrea Gorman, MS, RD, manager of clinical nutrition at Rhode Island Hospital\/Hasbro Children\u2019s Hospital in Providence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(see also\u00a0<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/togethercounts.com\/weekend-breakfast-nourishment\/\">Weekend Breakfast Nourishment<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here a few recommended, healthful foods that can help get your day started right:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Nutritious Cereal<\/strong> &#8211; Start with a high fiber cereal and add bananas, low-fat milk or plain yogurt or sprinkle on a little granola. You will be getting fiber, protein, calcium and potassium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Berries<\/strong> &#8211; Another possibility for breakfast is berries and low-fat Greek-style yogurt with a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of toasted sliced almonds. How good does that sound!<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Nutrition To Go <\/strong>&#8211; Smoothies are a great on-the-go option to start your morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Get a good \u201cwarm-up\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Susan B. Roberts, PhD, author of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.instinctdiet.com\/\">The Instinct Diet<\/a>\u00a0and professor of nutrition at the USDA Nutrition Center at Tufts University in Boston, recommends hot cereal: Microwave 1\/4 cup each of instant oatmeal and coarse wheat bran with a cup of 1 percent milk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/togethercounts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/shutterstock_29059540.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3321\" title=\"shutterstock_29059540\" src=\"https:\/\/togethercounts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/shutterstock_29059540.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/togethercounts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/shutterstock_29059540.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/togethercounts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/shutterstock_29059540-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/togethercounts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/shutterstock_29059540-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>5. Eggs<\/strong> \u2013 You can mix it up by mixing one whole egg with one egg white, some whole wheat toast and fruit and you are good to go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Burritos<\/strong> \u2013 Egg whites, low carb, whole wheat wraps, low fat salsa &amp; sour cream with just a sprinkle of cheese and you have a nutritious breakfast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. Cottage Cheese<\/strong> \u2013 Mixed with fruit or nuts is a good source of calcium and high in protein.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Ham<\/strong> &#8211; Yes, ham! Two slices of lean Canadian bacon with one whole egg and one egg white scrambled, and a half of grapefruit and you have got a meal full of protein, fiber, and vitamin C.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. Veggies<\/strong> \u2013 Add some vegetables like broccoli or spinach in your eggs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. Whole Grain<\/strong> \u2013 Whole-grain English muffins with peanut butter and sliced fruit like apples or pears, along with a glass of milk, can be filling while providing protein and calcium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your favorite go-to ingredient to kick start your day?
