Another year goes by, and millions of people are once again bound and determined to make some significant change to their lifestyles. Some succeed at this drastic change but most don&#8217;t. I have a challenge for you. Instead of making life-altering behavioral modifications, let&#8217;s do the baby steps approach!\u00a0<em>You ready?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here are four simple things you can do to improve your eating habits, and your overall health, too.<\/p>\n<p>The plan: Incorporate one change per week this month.\u00a0And, of course, continue these changes throughout 2013.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Eat one additional fruit and vegetable each day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Honestly, I don\u2019t care what you choose; just add one new option from each group. Most of us chronically under eat\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anytimehealth.com\/blog\/394947-lessons-on-adding-more-fruits-and-veggies-from-a-dietitian\">fruits and veggies<\/a>, so let\u2019s do something about it. After all, we all know how good they are for us. It\u2019s hard to find the perfect combination of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, but\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anytimehealth.com\/blog\/394691-cooking-with-fruit-and-vegetables-it-s-easier-than-you-think\">fruits and vegetables<\/a>\u00a0always fit the bill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Add protein at breakfast.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most breakfast foods are carbohydrate-heavy, so try to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anytimehealth.com\/blog\/394107-kicked-up-oatmeal\">add a protein source<\/a>\u00a0such as cottage cheese, eggs, Greek yogurt, or even peanut butter (sure\u2014we\u2019ll count that too). The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anytimehealth.com\/blog\/395044-the-ultimate-guide-to-protein-supplements\">additional protein<\/a>\u00a0will increase satiety and balance out your meal (and help control blood sugar levels, as well).<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Drink 4 glasses of water each day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve all heard of the 8&#215;8 rule, but truth be told, everyone\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anytimehealth.com\/blog\/394924-how-much-water-do-you-really-need-to-drink-daily\">water needs<\/a>\u00a0are different. That said, every one of us would benefit from drinking 4 glasses of water per day. The rest of your daily fluids can come from other liquids and from the foods you eat too.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.anytimehealth.com\/blog\/394915-4-fun-water-bottles-to-keep-you-hydrated\">Drinking more liquids<\/a>\u00a0offers numerous benefits, including improved kidney and bowel function, reduced muscular fatigue, and enhanced skin tone, not to mention the potential to help control calorie intake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Add two vegetarian meals each week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Try adopting the concept of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.meatlessmonday.com\/why-meatless\/\" target=\"_blank\">Meatless Monday<\/a>. There are definite health benefits associated with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anytimehealth.com\/blog\/394733-recipe-vegetable-char-grilled-shish-kabobs\">vegetarianism<\/a>, but it\u2019s clear that most people don\u2019t want to give up their carnivorous cravings. So how about adding a few more vegetarian meals each week?
