Playing outside is definitely a family favorite, but there are times when it just isn\u2019t possible.\u00a0 As a Together Counts\u2122 Ambassador, I stand behind the importance of active play \u2013 even if a gloomy day keeps us indoors. We are stealing a decorating trend of bringing the outdoors inside with these simple and fun family activity ideas!<\/p>\n

\"Outdoor<\/a>Indoor Garden<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Planting a terrarium is an easy family activity.\u00a0 I love how Modern Parents Messy Kids themed this garden to her kid\u2019s favorite playthings by adding dinosaurs.\u00a0 What would you add to your family terrarium?<\/p>\n

Indoor Picnic<\/strong> \u2013 Household meals do not have to be boring!\u00a0 Even a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich is elevated to an adventure when it is eaten on a blanket on the living room floor.\u00a0 Make a big production of packing up a nutritious meal and then take a tour of the house on your way to the final picnic destination.<\/p>\n

Indoor Games<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 A roll of painter\u2019s tape can mimic almost anything you might draw on the sidewalk with chalk.\u00a0 When I was a camp counselor, my cabin was known as the one with the painter\u2019s tape hopscotch on the floor.\u00a0 No camper of mine ever entered the cabin without playing this active game!<\/p>\n

Indoor Drive-In<\/strong><\/a>\u2013 Family movie night at my house will never be the same now that I have seen this DIY Indoor Drive-In Movie idea from Homemaking Fun!\u00a0 Creating cardboard box cars and drive-in treats will be a huge hit with my kids.<\/p>\n

Indoor Side<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 This simple cardboard and staircase slide from Milk and Cuddles is genius.\u00a0 The kids get to play on your indoor \u201cplayground\u201d and expend energy all in the comfort of home.<\/p>\n

Indoor Camping <\/strong>\u2013 Sheet and blanket tents are fun to construct together.\u00a0 Grab the sleeping bags and have a family campout!\u00a0 Retell favorite family stories by the glow of a flashlight.<\/p>\n

Indoor Campfire Food<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Traditional s\u2019mores can be created over a burner by parents.\u00a0 Our favorite campfire cone recipe works great in the oven.<\/p>\n

Indoor Catch<\/strong><\/a>\u2013 I admit to proclaiming \u201cno ball in the house\u201d several times, but there are ways to still get active indoors without complete household destruction.\u00a0 Using bean bags, wadded up paper, scarves or even a favorite stuffed animal for a friendly game of catch can get the family actively playing inside.<\/p>\n

Indoor Obstacle Course <\/strong>\u2013 This is a rainy day staple at my house.\u00a0 Our front entry and hall becomes the site of a very competitive race course.\u00a0 It all starts with an obstacle treasure hunt around the house seeking the most unusual obstacle. Chairs are no longer chairs, they are barriers to go over and under.\u00a0 Pillows are transformed into islands \u2013 no falling in the ocean!\u00a0 Stuffed animals become projectiles that must hit the basket target.<\/p>\n

Indoor Bubbles<\/strong> \u2013 Hand a child sitting in the tub a bottle of bubbles and pull the shower curtain!\u00a0 Tons of fun await as bubbles are launched.<\/p>\n

Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night will keep active play away!<\/p>\n
