However, not everyone has the opportunity to attend camp. This doesn&#8217;t mean that you can&#8217;t still\u00a0be creative in your own homes and backyards. Gathering up family and friends in the neighborhood and putting together fun activities is what summer is all about!<\/p>\n<p>As members of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, we support their Together Counts\u2122 program and encourage active, healthy lifestyle for kids, especially in the summer! We always like to put a healthy twist on things when we can, so we\u2019ve come up with some healthy ways that you can bring summer camp-like activities to your home:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Host a field day<\/strong> \u2013 Recruit your friends and head to a local park where you can host events such as a sack race, tug of war, hula hoop contest, or even a water balloon toss challenge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Create healthy music videos <\/strong>\u2013 Have kids select a fun song or two and write new, active, healthy-lifestyle-inspired lyrics to it. They can perform their songs for parents, friends and siblings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hike a trail <\/strong>\u2013 Find a fun nature trail and take the kids on a hike. Pass out a <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nwf.org\/kids\/family-fun\/outdoor-activities\/backyard-scavenger-hunt.aspx\">scavenger hunt list<\/a><\/span> for the kids. You can even throw in some fun exercises to have them do along the way. Great exercise and great fun! Win, win!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get crafty<\/strong> \u2013 Come up with some fun crafts for the kids to do. One suggestion is to have kids create rainbows using fruits and veggies of the appropriate color. Fun to make and delicious to eat afterward as a snack. Pinterest\u00a9 always has great ideas, too!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make snacking fun \u2013 <\/strong>Get watermelon or other types of melon, and cut out fun shapes with cookie cutters for the kids to enjoy a refreshing treat during the hot summer days. Get other creative snack ideas on our <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/organwise\/snackwise\/\"><em>SnackWise<\/em><\/a><\/span> Pinterest board.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cool off with some water<\/strong> \u2013 A pool or lake may not be readily available, but kids will enjoy running through a sprinkler or sliding across their back yards instead!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Camp out <\/strong>\u2013 Put up a tent, grab some flashlights and blankets and let the kids enjoy a backyard campout with friends. You can grill a meal of wholesome tasty foods just like you would at a campfire!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Creating fun memories for your kids doesn\u2019t have to be expensive. Spending time with family and friends is what\u2019s important. Be sure to slow down this summer and enjoy the time spent together with those that are important in your life.
