Spicing up the Dinner Routine

Today I am sharing with you a quick and easy dish that can be paired with just about anything to make this a complete meal. As a Together CountsTM Ambassador, along with McCormick® Spices, a Together Counts partner, I bring you Indoor ‘Grilled’ Tilapia. I have always tried to provide my family with wholesome meals, but with our busy schedules, I needed a dish that was not only affordable, but also nutritious and tasty.

McCormick recently funded a study stating: “Substituting herbs and spices for fat may be a promising strategy for helping people meet the Dietary Guidelines, especially if it’s simple stuff you can buy in the store that doesn’t require any exotic training.» As a Dietitian, I do feel that spices add flavor to a dish without having to add any additional fat, and Tilapia is already a healthful, affordable fish.

The best part is you don’t need the training of a chef or a dietitian to spice up your next meal. McCormick offers spice blends and mixes that are already prepped to add the perfect amount of flavor to your next meal. If you’re not sure how to describe a specific spice, McCormick provides a profile description for everything from allspice (licorice and warm brown spice) to paprika (woody and earthy). With McCormick Spices, and a bit of creativity, you can feel like you’ve tasted the flavors of the world without leaving your neighborhood.

To make the Tilapia dish, I sprayed a little nonstick cooking spray in a pan over medium-heat. I squeezed a little fresh lime juice over the fish and sprinkled it with McCormick’s Grill Mates Backyard Brick Oven Seasoning. It gave the fish that outdoor grilled taste made in just minutes on my stovetop.

The beauty about this dish is you can pair with anything. You can shred it for tacos, or add your favorite side dishes. We paired this with long grain rice and steamed green beans. My entire family had very happy bellies!

Spray a medium size saucepan with nonstick cooking spray. Bring to medium-heat. Squeeze your lime juice on both sides of the fish than sprinkle both sides of the fish fillets with the seasoning. Cook for about 6-8 minutes on each side. Serve immediately.
