10 Ways to Beat Summer Boredom

Kids say the darndest things! Sometimes this includes those two dreaded words during the summer, “I’m bored.” With toys and games all around, this seems unimaginable, but it happens. Here are 10 activities that are a sure way to cure any child’s boredom while school is out and also keep them moving and engaged.

  1. Build a backyard fort.
  2. Do a scavenger hunt around the neighborhood or on a local trail.
  3. Draw with sidewalk chalk.
  4. See your board games in a new light and play them in the backyard.
  5. Improve you and your child’s balance by trying these fun yoga poses from the Together Counts Enrichment Zone.
  6. Have a picnic at home or at your local park for a change of lunchtime scenery.
  7. Visit your local museum. During the summer, many museums offer specific days with free admittance.
  8. Take a bike ride on a new path.
  9. Go fly a kite.
  10. Shake up that old “Simon Says” game by adding a sprinkler.
