4 Ways to Stay Hydrated This Summer

Summer is the perfect time to try something new. Whether it’s a hike in a local park, cooking a healthy recipe on the grill, or trying a new sport, there are plenty of ways to stay active and healthy in the warm weather. As a Together Counts™ partner supporting healthy, active living, we encourage you to hydrate by drinking plenty of water each day as you enjoy time outside this summer.

Water is one of the healthiest and most cost-effective beverages you can drink. Drinking water can help you maintain a healthy weight, keep your digestive system running smoothly, prevent headaches, relieve joint pain, boost your energy level, and uplift your mood. It’s easy to get dehydrated when it’s hot outside, so use these tips from Guard Your Health, a supporter of Together Counts, to stay hydrated all summer long.

  1. Use a Hydration Calculator: Find out how much water you should be drinking each day by entering your weight, activity level, climate, and daily amount of exercise. Use this number as a guide for how much water you should drink. Remember that the more active you are, the more water your body needs.
  2. Drink from a Water Bottle: The best way to remind yourself to drink water is to always have water with you! Get in the habit of always bringing water along when you leave the house.
  3. Try Flavored Waters: Think water is too boring? Slice up some fresh cucumbers, lemons, or strawberries and drop them into your glass for a nice kick of flavor. Make a pitcher of your favorite infused water at night and stick it in the fridge so it’s cold and ready to go the next morning.
  4. Eat Fruits and Vegetables: Watermelon, cucumbers, and celery all contain more than 90% water, and are a perfect snack on a hot summer day. Freeze watermelon chunks for an even more refreshing snack for the whole family.
