Family Thanksgiving Activities for Together Counts

I love Thanksgiving because everything surrounding the holiday supports family togetherness and the spirit of gratitude.  And while much of the preparation may be over the family meal, as a Together Counts™ Ambassador I know the memories will be made all day.

Adding a little play into the mix can get everyone active and giggling.  Here are some activities that can be added into the mix.  You never know which one will become a Thanksgiving tradition!

Fall Scavenger Hunt – The whole family can get involved in this outside activity.  Even the littlest participant can find the things on the picture list.

Thankful Leaves Basket Toss – No one will be able to sit on the couch and watch this interactive game!  Depending on the skill level of the players, choose the modifications that fit your family the best.

Fall Sensory Bin – Sensory bins are traditionally thought of for preschoolers to increase their sensory experience, but setting one up for the whole family can be a ton of fun.  No one can resist getting involved!

Play a Nostalgic Game – If your Thanksgiving is attended by several generations of friends/family, this game of marbles could be great fun.  Not only can the older generations teach the younger, but it just might remind them of a story they haven’t told in years.

Make Butter for Dinner – Make butter together…it is quite a workout.  Everyone can get involved if you pass it around the house while the family is relaxing and chatting.

Make a Gratitude Tree – Start with an outdoor search for just the right branches and end up inside with a tree full of thanks.

Read a Thanksgiving Book Together – Snuggling together over a great story with those you love is the perfect ending to a memorable day.

Plan a bit of play into this year’s festivities!  It gives everyone a chance to work off a few of the calories from that amazing meal.

Holly Homer is a stay-at-home mom of three boys ages 7, 10 and 12.  She realized early on that boys have a lot of energy and energy can be turned for evil use if not channeled in the proper direction!  She partially homeschools and has embraced that the dining room table will never be free of kids art projects. Keep up with Holly on Kids Activities Blog.
