25 Family Activities for Black Friday

When I first moved to the United States (I was born and raised in Western Canada) I had vaguely heard about Black Friday but never experienced it. Now after living in the United States for over 10 years, I spend the day with my kids, who are home from school, and use this day together as a mini break from our everyday routine. As a Together Counts™ ambassador, I’m always looking for ways to make not only mealtimes, but family activities special.

Here are 25 great family activities to get you and your family moving on Black Friday. Do one, do them all, or somewhere in the middle. Even if you do hit the sales on Black Friday, take some time to play and eat together and make some memories that will last.

  1. Go for a bike ride.
  2. Host a leftover party with friends and family. You don’t have to eat your own leftovers when you can have someone else’s.
  3. Play Connect Four.
  4. Put up the Christmas lights.
  5. Grab the pigskin and play some touch football.
  6. Go to a children’s museum.
  7. Go see a movie.
  8. Gather some friends and play kickball at a local park. It’s a great game for all ages and abilities.
  9. Indoor Campout. Put a tent up in the living room and make s’mores in the oven.
  10. Play hide and seek – indoors or out!
  11. Go for a swim at the local (indoor) pool!
  12. Read by flashlight together in a blanket fort.
  13. Bake some cookies for the local fire station, nursing home, or police station and deliver them warm.
  14. Facetime with friends and family who you didn’t get to see over Thanksgiving.
  15. Charades.
  16. Go for a winter wilderness walk – note the birds and other animals you see
  17. If you have snow, build a snowman. If you have a ton of snow, make a snow fort.
  18. Drink some hot cocoa.
  19. Jenga!
  20. Build a gingerbread house.
  21. Visit the aquarium.
  22. If you are in a warm climate, have a water balloon fight.
  23. Twister.
  24. Get out all the old photo albums (remember those?) and take a walk down memory lane.
  25. Go ice skating.

What would you add to our list of fun family activities?
